Hornets Post Game Quotes

Head Coach Jeff Bower
On the mentality and toughness of the team:
“They’re outstanding. Their mentality and their approach is one of their most outstanding qualities. Having said that, they are going to stick together. They’re going to continue to work hard. We’re going to stress searching for improvement in areas that we need. We’re going to continue to stress following through our plan each night, because we have to give ourselves a chance to win. This is going to continue on. This is our rough stretch. There are teams ahead of us that have a rough stretch coming, too, when you look at the schedule. We have to make sure that we keep ourselves positioned to take advantage of that when that happens.”

On the loss:
“It’s a tough way to finish the game. In the close, we gave ourselves a chance at the very end there. The scoring problems that we had in the final minutes made it difficult. We thought we had a chance to win the thing up until the end. Things broke pretty much the way you want them to keep it alive down to the last possession. That scoring drought to finish the game was hard.”

Hornets Forward David West
On the game:
“As a team, I don’t think we have a good rhythm. We’re not playing fluid basketball. We need to come in and have a good practice and go down to San Antonio and get competitive with them. I don’t know why. Basketball is a rhythm game and everybody has to be on the same page as far as feeling good and confident about what we are going out there to do.”

Hornets Forward James Posey
On the game:
“Losing is not good. We still had a chance and we just didn’t do it tonight. I knew we didn’t have any timeouts, and when he missed the second one, I drove up the sideline. I saw Marcus had stopped and saw Peja. Then I thought I had penetrated far enough to have a kick back and Rudy Gay intercepted it. We were able to come back and still have a chance to win. We weren’t able to pull this one out and that hurts.”

Grizzlies Post Game Quotes

Head Coach Lionel Hollins
On the game:
“We turned the ball over some and Zach made a big shot with three seconds on the shot clock he hit it off the glass for a three point play. We had a couple of good defensive plays and we had some bonehead plays too but fortunate for us we got the win. We missed the two free throws at the end and they didn’t have any time outs left and Posey had to bring the ball down the court which is out of his element.”

On being down in the 4th Quarter:
“We were down 9 points in the 4th and we just kept battling. Mike Conley had a huge game, he kept attacking the basket and Zach played outstanding as well.”

On team’s scrappiness in 4th quarter:
“They fought and we were down and they battled back and it looked like an exact replica of the game that we played here last time when we were up and they came back so I am happy with the win.”

Grizzlies Forward Rudy Gay
On the difference in this game from the last versus the Hornets:
“We picked up the defensive intensity. We made it tough for Peja to get open shots and we clogged the lane very well.”

On the play of Mike Conley:
“I think he let off a little bit. There were times when I got on him and thought he should have done different things. That was one of the reasons we won tonight. We need to get that out of him every night.”

On their recent road wins:
“Right now you’ve got to focus. It started as a marathon and now it’s a sprint. We’ve got to win most of these games. If we lose, we make it a lot harder on ourselves.”
